Fishing Reports and Forecasts for Lake Norman June 14, 2009

This report submitted on:

Recent trips have produced nice bags of stripers, catfish, bass, and perch. The water temperatures are low 80F in the main lake. The mouths of main creeks are holding schools of stripers suspended in 30-50 deep in 50-70 ft of water, while catfish are on main channel points, and the bass are shallow early moving to deeper water during the day. The stripers can be taken on live baits or artificials fished down, & the catfish are eating live and cut baits fished on or close to the bottom. Bass will eat smallish live baits(2-4 inch shad, herring, shiners, bream), or artificials. Topwaters are good early with deeper running crankbaits, jigs, and plastics effective on deeper structure during the day. Look for the stripers and catfish to begin their summer migration to the Cowans Ford Dam in the coming weeks.
