Fishing Reports and Forecasts for Lake Norman July 19, 2009

This report submitted on:

Morning trips have produced good mixed bags of stripers, bass, catfish and perch. At dawn, stripers, bass, & cats have been feeding in deep water(30-50 ft) in boat harbors. Around mid-morning, perch can be found near the backs of large coves and creeks in 20-30 ft of water. Bass are on main channel points in 20-40 ft of water, and stripers are holding in depths down to 70 ft in the main river and creek channels near the south end of the lake.

Fishing at night is a really good option through August. Stripers and catfish frequent the deep water near Cowan's Ford Dam. They can be taken with live baits, jigs, and crankbaits fished 30-70 ft deep. Bright white or green lights are useful to help concentrate plankton, bait, the predator fish.
